Natural Methods to Prevent Carpet Fleas.
Carpet fleas are a disturbing little
pest that no home wants. It doesn’t only feed off your
dogs or cats but they also invade your house and even your
house yard. It is difficult to live with fleas in your
house both in summer and fall. It can become expensive if
you have to continuously buy sprays or powders to control
fleas. There are ways that you can prevent fleas from invading
your house, or yards and upon your pets by using natural
treatments.
First trick to kill adult fleas is vacuum-clean like crazy
to get rid of fleas. Vacuum-cleaning the whole house often
(specially under furniture, behind doors, etc) and
throwing away the bag each time will help a ton. Daily
vacuum-cleaning will at least rid the home of 94% of live
adult fleas. This counts for all the carpets and floors
make sure you vacuum everything. Then seal the vacuum
cleaner bag in another plastic bag to make sure that no
fleas can get out and place that bag in your trash can
outside. You will need to repeat this process regularly
so that you can keep the fleas out of your home for
good.
Put Borax and salt into your vacuum cleaner, this will help
to get rid of any possible flea eggs that you have
collected during vacuuming your house. This is a safe
and cheap way to control the fleas in your house. Salt and
borax are inexpensive and safe around your kids and your
pets. Mix the salt and borax into a 50 - 50 mixture.
Plant the herb, ' Pennyroyal ', in your household or near a
doghouse, it will repel fleas. You may also wish to grow
and maintain the herb in your home or apartment.
Cedar is one of nature's insect repellents and used for
centuries, especially on clothes. Lately, it's getting
more popular as a method to keep fleas away from pets. The
popularity has increased because some chemical companies that
develop sprays and such to treat fleas on cats and dogs
have receive negative reviews in many pet journals as
shortening the lives of dogs and cats.
When fleas notice the smell of Cedar, they instinctively
recognize that cedar isn't a secure environment for their eggs
and they simply leave it. Put a piece of Cedar Wood in the
corner of rooms, below furniture and under a pets bed area will
keep the fleas away. Next, put some Cedar Chips in your house
or flats, behind the doors, etc, as it will act like a
barrier to hold fleas away.
Eucalyptus leafage also work really well for holding fleas
at bay. For some reason, fleas do not like the smell.
Eucalyptus leaves can be purchased online or at many
natural health food shops and even at some of the bigger craft
shops. There are some benefits to applying eucalyptus as a
flea treatment, such as getting rid of any side effects
that can come with using other toxic
chemical substances.
Tansy is already in use for healing functions in the last
decade, but it's also great as a flea repellant. Fleas do not
like the scent of tansy. Hang tansy flowers in your room or
place where you have a flea problem. You could also hang
several by doors and windows, make sure to hang them high
enough that your pets can't consume them. They are deadly to
animals if consumed. You also can rub the flower and put it on
your dogs or cats coat to act as a repellant. Tansy flowers can
be grown in all area, but it is better to grow them in areas
away from other plants to stop them from over running your main
gardens. You must cut off the dead tansy flowers so they do not
produce seeds.
